Reverse DNS

Reverse DNS may be required by some internet protocols. Without reverse DNS, you may experience technical problems with some SMTP servers, r-commands, IRC, some enterprise management systems and network backup systems.

NetRegistry offers a reverse DNS service to our dedicated hosting customers.

How it works?

Conventional DNS is also referred to as Forward DNS. It involves the resolution of a domain name to an IP address.

Example: mail.mydomain.com.au 202.124.241.200

Reverse DNS was designed to allow the reverse process of the above.

Example: 202.124.241.200 mail.mydomain.com.au

Setting up reverse DNS isn’t required for most domains, however some servers (including mail servers) block connections from IP addresses that do not have reverse DNS entries.
