AustralianBiz www.australianbiz.com.au is a small business that provides up-to-date tax information, management tools and other services to assist managers to better manage their business and income tax obligations. Despite having an active media profile and links to large organisations websites, the site was not attracting any significant increase in new visitors each month.
Search Engine Optimisation Challenge
The website was not designed in a way that it could be easily found in the major search engines, particularly by Google which is by far the most widely used in Australia. There was no text on the home page that contained the key features of the site. Many of the buttons on the home page were “images” instead of text, making it impossible for the search engine software to read the information. The key words used in the title of the home page and other pages on the site did not properly reflect the contents of each page.
Search Engine Optimisation Solution
To increase the quantity of new visitors, Netregistry implemented a comprehensive and focused strategy for the site. This included adding text to the homepage that featured key words such as “tax” and “small business”, written with both search engines and visitors in mind. The yellow buttons at the top and bottom of each page were converted from images to text. The key words in the title of the home page, and other pages on the site, were amended to reflect the contents of each page.
Netregistry also established a “Resources” page to build up a strong link network for AustralianBiz’s site. This is an on-going strategy that plays a crucial role in achieving high search engine positions and is monitored by Netregistry on a weekly basis.
Results
- Within two months of the campaign, there was a significant improvement in the search engine rankings The number of new visitors increased by 120% during this period.
- Soon after, the search engine positioning for the major keys words “small business” and “tax“ appeared in the first 10 pages of Google and were climbing each week.
- After 6 months, new visitors had increased by 350% without any additonal promotion of the site.
- AustralianBiz now dominates the top 10 positions in every major search engine for many of the items on the site. For example, the site currently boasts a number 1 ranking on Google for the words “small business taxation” and also appears on page 1 for “small business tax”.
