Outlook 2000 email setup tutorial

Before configuring an email program to send and receive emails, a POP email account must be setup with an Netregistry email hosting service.

Working with this tutorial

In the following examples replace the example information with the correct account information, i.e:

  • John Smith = <Your Name>
  • johnsmith@netregistry.net = <your.email@yourdomainname.tld>
  • netregistry.net = <yourdomainname.tld>

To Setup an email account with Outlook 2000 

  1. Click Tools from the menu bar.
  2. Click Accounts from the drop down menu.

  3. Click [Add] and select Mail…

  4. Type the Display name for the email account.
  5. Click [Next].

  6. Type the Email address, e.g. johnsmith@netregistry.net.
  7. Click [Next].
  8. Complete the following information:

    My incoming mail server is a: Select POP3 or IMAP from the drop down. What’s the difference?.
    Incoming mail server:     pop.netregistry.net or imap.netregistry.net (depending which account type you’ve selected).
    Outgoing mail server:     smtp.netregistry.net or your Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) outgoing mail server.

     

  9.  Click [Next].

  10. Complete the following information:

    Account Name: The full email address of the account, e.g. johnsmith@netregistry.net
    Password:     The password used for this email account.
    Remember Password:     Selected.
    Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA):     Unselected.

  11.  Click [Next].

     

  12.  Click [Finish].

  13.  In the Internet Accounts window, select the email account just created (pop.netregistry.net), then click [Properties].

  14. Select the Servers tab. 
  15.  Select My server requires authentication. 
  16. Select the Advanced tab.

  17. In the Server Port Numbers window:

    With SSL Encryption
    This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) = Selected.
    Change the Outgoing mail(SMTP) number to 465.
    Use the following type of encrypted connection = SSL.

    Without SSL Encryption
    This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) = Unselected.
    Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP) number to 587.
    Use the following type of encrypted connection = None.

     

  18.  Click [OK].

  19.  Click [Close].

Congratulations you have now correctly setup your email account in Outlook 2000.
