Chances are you probably have not heard of BGP Anycast. What is it you ask? Anycast is a routing and addressing policy to achieve the most efficient path between a single source and several geographically dispersed targets. Anycast allows multiple, identical, global DNS servers using the same IP address with handling routing of the request to the closest location.

This means that when an internet user looks up your domain name, they use the server nearest to their geographic location.

Anycast Map

Our DNS servers are located in various geographic locations, including the US, Europe, Asia and 2 locally in Australia. The point of this is so that the users located within US, Europe and Asia will be automatically resolving hostnames using those servers closest to them. It also means that an issue effecting a server in the US can have it's traffic rerouted to Asia.

Netregistry utilise Anycast on all our cloud DNS servers which is included with cloud hosting and domain manager services.
