Although your website consists of a range of different content on many pages, it is essential that the design itself is kept consistent throughout. The navigation system for your website should be in the same place on every page and have the same format.

If this is not the case visitors will get confused and frustrated, particularly if links appear and disappear unpredictably.

People like things consistent, so your web pages should be too. That’s why all windows programs have the same look and feel; the same goes for Mac programs and popular informational sites like Wikipedia. These are all great examples of sites whom have a clear and consistent navigation system.

When planning your website development, the three key things to remember are to ensure all pages have a clean, consistent navigation system coupled with a recognised, usable layout. A clean, consistent navigation system and page layout allows users to find important information quickly.

Remember, visitors don’t always land on your home page – every page on your website is a potential landing page. Ensure when a visitor lands on any page, they are presented with simple options to go to the pages you want them to go to.
