What are SRV records?

An SRV record is a Domain Name System record type that allows for a hostname and port of a service to be delegated.

Creating an SRV record

Cloud hosting customers

All customers who have access to Zone Manager in The Console can self manage their SRV records.

To explain how to create an SRV record, we will create an example record for the following specifications:

_sip._tcp.example.com. 86400 IN SRV 1 5 5060 sipserver.example.com

  1. Login to the Console
  2. Manage the domain you want to make changes to
  3. Click Zone Manager
    Note: If this option is not displayed, please contact Netregistry Technical Support. The Zone Manager page details the domain zone records and allows for changes to A, CNAME, MX, NS, TXT or SRV records
  4. Click SRV to create an SRV record
  5. On the following page you will need to enter the details as shown below:

  6. Click [Add Record]

Note: Standard DNS propagation time of up to two hours may apply. Refreshing the cache may help to resolve the redirection. Press CTRL-F5 (PC) or CMD-R(Mac).

cPanel hosting customers

cPanel customers have no access to management of SRV records. If you currently hold a service on cPanel and want to manage SRV records, please contact our Support team to discuss migrating the service to Cloud.
