Below are some tips and suggestions we recommend you follow to help protect yourself against spam.
Use anti-spam filtering
One useful method of preventing your inbox from filling with spam is to enable anti-spam filtering on your email account and configuring the threshold to an ideal setting. The links below can assist you in doing this.
Protect your email address
Do not display your email address on public forums or websites. If a spammer does not know your email address, they will not be able to send you spam. Spammers use web crawling bots to scan random website pages for text that resembles email addresses. These bots collect the email addresses they find and add them into their spam mailing lists.
It is best to use an online contact form on your website rather than display your email address in plain text on your website. If you prefer not to use an online contact form, we recommend displaying your email address as an image rather than using plain text. This will prevent the email address from being detected by bots which scan for text only.
Use a CAPTCHA
When using an online form to allow your website visitors to contact you, make sure to use a CAPTCHA to protect the form and your email address from being abused by bots.
Protect your passwords
It is common for spammers to send out mass emails to common email address types such as info@, admin@, billing@, accounts@, etc. If you do not use these addresses but have a catch-all which forwards all emails sent to your domain towards a specific email address, you will end up with plenty of unwanted spam. If you are currently using a catch-all email address and are receiving plenty of spam, we recommend you delete the catch-all email address.
Use SPF records
Spammers use email spoofing to mask their identity and pretend to be people they are not. It is effective in tricking victims into opening spam because the emails look to be from people they know. The best method to protect your email address against email spoofing is to configure SPF records within your domains zone file.
